In Review: The Brexit Comic

The Brexit Comic #2 - Cover

Why Don’t You..? was a popular kids’ show back in the 1970s and 1980s and the main gist was to encourage kids to switch off the TV and go and do something less boring instead. Well, that ethos seems to have encouraged Mike Dicks to do something less boring thaN engage in endless reiterations of the same argument on social media and he has created The Brexit, a comic that features his reimagining of political figures as Trumpton-like people.

(For those that don’t know, Trumpton was a beloved animated kids’ TV show from the 1960s created by Gordon Murray, which was the central part of the Trumptonshire trilogy with the first part being Camberwick Green and the third part, Chigley. It span off into comics as well as being an oft-repeated show for years).

This is a project that unashamedly pokes fun at all sides of the political divide and has some genuinely funny scripting.

The Brexit Comic #2 - Sample

With stories like “Farage’s Garage”, “Corbyn’s Hats”, “Captain Brexit and Gimpboy”, this is satire with a bite. In comic terms, it’s not as off the wall as Deadline but it’s certainly in the same chapter of adult comics that we would find Crisis and Revolver.

There’s also a wonderful tribute to Stephen Hawking in A Brief History of Time.

The Brexit Comic - PromoThis comic has also been a first for me in that it is the first time that I have found a photo-comic story that I have genuinely enjoyed and liked.
