Rare Ron Turner collected comics cache discovered, offered for sale

Ron Turner's Kalgan the Golden

John Lawrence, publisher of terrific retro stripzine, Space Ace, has been in touch to say that he’s recently unearthed a small cache of the Ron Turner comics he produced in the 1980s, published by Harrier Comics.

If you’re unfamiliar with them, they were black and white publications in US comic book format, both featuring fully-painted colour covers by TV Century 21‘s “The Daleks” artist Ron and featuring characters that he’s very much identified with.

Kalgan the Golden is a 28-page adaptation of a short SF story by E.C. Tubb, which tells the story of the immortal Kalgan, who offers a young star traveller the chance for eternal life… all he has to do is slay Kalgan himself!

Harrier Comics presents Nick Hazard Interstellar Agent

Nick Hazard is a cross between Dan Dare and Rick Random and in this story,  a modern day recreation of the classic John Russell Fearn/Ron Turner collaboration, centring on Nick Hazard, Interstellar Agent.

With artwork by Ron and scripting by Philip Harbottle (Fearn’s biographer), classic Fearn stories, such as “Lords of 9016” and “Planet of Doom,” are retold through the eyes of new, recurring character Nick Hazard. By throwing him into the thick of the action, the title combines the inventive strengths of the original story — its “sense of wonder” — with a continuing hero. The result: An entertaining adventure that Golden Age fans are sure to love.

The story in this edition is not the tale currently being printed in Spaceship Away.

John has copies for sale at £4.95 each or both for £8.95 including postage. As usual, if paying through PayPal, via spaceace.54@virginmedia.com  please ensure you tick the ‘for friends and family’  box to avoid unnecessary charges.
