Art from the Walking Dead comic by Charlie Adlard, superhero drawings by Darwyn Cooke and Stuart Immonen and cartoons by Guardian cartoonist Steve Bell and VIZ artist Graham Dury have been added to the catalogue for Lakes International Comic Art Festival Grand Auction of Original Comic Art, which will take place live and online from London’s Orbital Comics on 24th November.
The auction will be run by Jonathan Ross, side by side with Kendal’s Tim Farron MP (and Lib Dem leader) and will help to raise funds for future Lakes International Comic Art Festival commissioned projects in advance of its annual weekend-long celebrations of all things comics, taking place in 2016 from 14th – 16th October.
The auction is being supported by Choose South Cumbria – an initiative that promotes the region as a place to live and work.
“Over the last few weeks and months some of the greatest artists currently working in comics have been scouring their archives and generously donating dozens of gorgeous pieces of artwork for our auction,” notes auction organiser Peter Kessler. “The proceeds will not only help the festival run, but also aid in funding commissions from new talent in the comics field.”
As we previously reported, the auction also features works by the likes of Ian Churchill, Hunt Emerson, Dave Gibbons, Jamie Hewlett, Sean Phillips, Posy Simmonds and Bryan Talbot.
The items range from brief doodles by great masters to the original sketches behind cover images that have sold in their thousands all over the world.
Taking place on 24th November at Orbital Comics in London, the auction will be running both online and in the room simultaneously (places limited), so you can log in no matter where you are. Just register to bid at Proxibid, and you’re all set. In fact it’s a good idea to register whether you’re planning to come on the night or not.
