Comic creator Lee O’Connor has teased a mock-up of Metronomy‘s Small World album comic you can get from independent record shops when the record is released on 18th February 2022, commissioned by the band’s label, Because Music.
“The story loops, so you read the comic from the back page round to the front page again,” Devon-based creator Lee, who is currently working on a new fantasy graphic novel, Fionn Mac Cumhaill, explains.
If you’re a Metronomy fan, then you should know that if you buy the album from the Drift Record Shop in Totnes, you’ll get a tea towel Lee did the art for too!
“This was just a massive laugh from start to finish,” says Lee. “We went for the full chintz on this one. Truth be told, it’s based a lil’ bit on a genuine vintage tea towel, banging on about how The Isle of Wight has eight wonders, more than the rest of the entire world put together. Eesh.”
Lee is a professional Illustrator who’s has worked on illustrations, comics and storyboarding for print and film on both sides of the Atlantic. His credits include graphic novel versions of stories written by Anthony Horowitz, strips for the magazine, Delayed Gratification, and much more, including several other music-related comics.
Based in Totnes, Devon, Metronomy are an award-winning electronic music group, originally formed in 1999, whose music consists of vocal and instrumental electronic pop music. Vocalist, guitarist and keyboard player Joseph Mount also releases remixes under the name Metronomy, and has remixed many artists including Gorillaz, Sebastien Tellier, Roots Manuva, Franz Ferdinand and more. To date, they have released six albums of original material and will be touring both Europe and the UK this year to promote Small World.
