ComicScene Magazine Issue One out next month, pilot in stores now

ComicScene Magazine Issue One 2019

ComicScene Magazine – British comic fans’ dedicated monthly magazine available through  WHSmith, McColls and Eason (Ireland) stores. has a pilot issue in stores now and the magazine goes monthly with Issue One from 21st February 2019.

As the comic convention season starts and comic book movies such as the Oscar nominated Black Panther, Aquaman, Captain Marvel and Shazam! continue to dominate movie cinemas across the UK and Ireland, the magazine aims to introduce new and current readers to the world of comic books from the UK, US and beyond.

The pilot issue celebrates 80 years of Superman, 40 years of Star Wars Weekly and takes a look at classic comics currently being reprinted by UK publishers such as Rebellion, publishers of 2000AD and DC Thomson, publishers of the Beano and Commando comics.

The magazine also features comic books on TV and film, the thriving indie and small press scene as well as ComicCons and comic events.

“The response to the magazine has been fantastic,” says publisher Tony Foster. “We thought it was time there was a dedicated magazine to comics, not just for comic fans but for the millions of adults who grew up reading comics in the UK and Ireland.

“The magazine allows them to see what it out there, including new reprints of classic conic material, that can also help them introduce their kids to comics. It’s not just nostalgia as we also feature some of the best UK, US, indie, small press and graphic novels out there too.”

Using some of the best comic journalists in the country Issue One features football comics including Roy of the Rovers, 80 years of Batman, a look back at publishing house Marvel UK and classic characters such as Dan Dare and Marshal Law, both written by creator of 2000AD creator Pat Mills, a regular columnist.

As we’ve previously reported, the magazine was originally launched as subscription only in May 2018 but soon found its way into comic stores such as Forbidden Planet, then comic stores across the UK, Ireland and Europe through Diamond Distributors and has now been relaunched in newsagents such as WHSmith, McColls and Easons in Ireland.

Some libraries are stocking the magazine to help guide readers towards comics and graphic novels available on their shelves.

The magazines new fortnightly podcast, produced in Dundee University, is due early February.

The magazine is cover to cover features on comics. ComicScene also runs news and reviews via its website comicsflix.org and its social media channels on facebook, twitter and Instagram.
