Oi!: Tales of Bardic Fury Volume One - Cover

There are only a few days left in a promotion from Backwards Burd cartoonist Daniel de Sosa to get your hands on an a Celtic Comic, downloadable from the Amazon’s Kindle store – a fantasy comic about a bard who gets sent to a town in the north of Ireland that’s never heard music before.

This volume collects the first five chapters of the Iron Age fantasy web comic saga Oi! Tales of Bardic Fury from Daniel, a collection funded thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign last year – helped, we’re sure, by being made a Kickstarter staff pick.

Daniels is an American cartoonist born in the San Fernando Valley, who has been living in London for the past five years.

“Oi! is inspired heavily by my passions for rock music, history, and ancient Gaelic culture and mythology,” he says. “Traditional Irish music and poetry to me is the most beautiful in the world and more people need to know about the cultures great musical history.

“Iron Age Ireland was a culture controlled by mushroom chewing druids, where music was considered a form of magic, and even had the power to overthrow kings. Druids were like hippy cult leaders and Bards were like rock stars.

“The more I researched and learned about ancient Irish society, the more ideas and characters began popping in to my head. I had to create a story in this setting. Soon Oi! was born.”
