Small press sensation Soppy is back – bigger, better, and more hardcover-y than ever – and Gosh London have just announced a launch party with creator Phillipa Rice on the 16th January 2015.
What started out as a self published collection of comics detailing the frankly adorable relationship of Philippa Rice and fellow artist Luke Pearson has become somewhat of a ‘must-read’ book. Whether it’s the pair playing board-games by candlelight, bartering over household chores, or getting soppy about a gas bill, each vignette is handled with her trademark sense of humour and super sweet artwork.
Philippa has teamed up with publisher Square Peg, an imprint of Random House and part of Vintage Publishing, to release the 112-page hardcover edition of the book. The publisher sent us a Soppy for review a while back and it’s on my list to do (sorry, Philippa!), but suffice to say it more than lives up to the deserved praise heaped upon it from many quarters.
If you’ve not checked out any of Philippa’s other work then you’re missing out. Titles include Sister BFF’s, Recyclost, My Cardboard Life, We’re Out, and St Colin and the Dragon. They’re a regular fixture on the Gosh! Small Press shelves.
Gosh will be celebrating the release with beer and bubbly and, of course, Philippa will be on hand signing copies of the book between 7-9pm on Friday 16th January. If you’d like a copy put aside or signed on your behalf then send an email to info@goshlondon.com or, if you can’t make it into the store to pick up a copy then they’ve created a pre-order on the webstore (books will be shipped after the event).
It’s the perfect gift for Valentines day, or really, any day of the year!
