We’re sorry to report the unexpected death of comic artist Adam Stone, winner of the 2024 2000AD Art Talent competition, whose death following a tragic accident, has been announced. Photo courtesy Ben Cullis Adam was a contributor to a number of independent comic projects, as well as developing his own. “Future Shocks: Infiltrator”, written by Ed Whiting, was published in 2000AD Prog 2439 earlier this year. “Adam was an exceptionally talented artist with a bright future ahead of him, and it was an honour to publish his work,” the team at Rebellion have said in an online tribute. “Sending our deepest condolences to his family and friends.” Adam’s pencils and the final opening page for “Future Shocks: Infiltrator”, which featured in 2000AD Prog 2349 in July In addition to making his 2000AD comics debut this year, Adam was developing his own projects, inspired by his love of science fiction and horror. His work featured in independent projects such as Venus Rises, written by Jason G Birdsall, and Mother Udder Comics. He also painted two album covers for the band, Fate's Hollow. His published work also included illustrations for the game, Alchemical Inc., developed by Looch Labs. He proved that by winning the 2000AD Art Talent competition. “Throughout 2025 we corresponded about the project, agreeing to meet up at Thought Bubble again to continue our discussions and finalise a deal. “We talked for an hour and I was impressed with his genuine affection for our books and had a chance to hear him discuss, at length, his work and look at the beautiful illustrations close up, as he'd brought several pages of 'Atomic Fire' - shown here. “We said we'd be in touch and bade our farewells. “I treasure that memory. I thought it was beautiful. And over the past year, I've not only had the pleasure of calling him a colleague, but also a good friend. “When we last spoke, he talked about how happy he was, with the work he was doing, with the life he made with his wife and of being a father to his child. He was a good man who spoke about his life and family with love.” Adam’s work, across various projects, looks simply outstanding, and I’m sorry I never had opportunity to meet such a talented creator. My sympathies at this time to family and friends.
