Network DVD includes “Man in a Suitcase” Comic as part of new Blu-Ray release

Award-winning specialist Blu-Ray and DVD distribution company Network have included another fantastic comic strip addition to one of their latest limited deluxe edition Blu-Ray box sets – Man in a Suitcase: Volume 6.

A cracking ITC adventure series first broadcast in the UK between 1967 and 1968, Man in a Suitcase starred Richard Bradford in a career-defining role as McGill, a discredited ex-CIA agent reduced to working as a private investigator, travelling the world as a ‘gun for hire’. His unorthodox approach and strong sense of personal integrity often bring him into conflict with both his employers and the authorities, making him more enemies than friends…

Man in a Suitcase has been newly remastered in HD from the original 35mm film elements for this Blu-ray edition, which features the final five episodes of the series that effectively replaced Danger Man when Patrick McGoohan chose to move on to The Prisoner.

The limited deluxe edition comprises a “Faux suitcase” box to contain all six volumes of the blu-ray release of the series (Volume 6 is supplied with the box, the others are available separately); an invaluable “Case Notes” history of the series production, by Andrew Pixley; and a wonderful hardback comic album presented in the style of a newspaper strip. Illustrations by “Barretti“, whose previous art credits include the brilliant graphic novel Goldtiger and Hope for the Future, with a script by “Mariocki“.

“Barretti” is of course an alias, and he wants to keep it that way in connection with this release – but many downthetubes are likely to know his identity.

Writer Mariocki is actually Martin Cater, who’s also written a number of the comic strips featured as part of previous Network releases such as the recent Joe 90 Blu-Ray special.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
