New 2000AD out today, the all-new Monster Fun incoming next week!

The Intestinauts are back in this week’s 2000AD, Prog 2275, screaming unabashed silliness from the get go thanks to an eye-catching cover from Pye Parr, that’s so manic it’s a wonder it won’t jump off a WHSmith shelf and bite an unwary customer’s leg off. (Or the store manager, if the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic has been rammed behind Practical Camera, again).

As Tharg himself cautions, “Expect droid-on-droid action in the stinky surrounds of a futuristic sewer system, as a fiery fight on a gargantuan fatberg has explosive consequences!” We need a bit of cheering right now, so this is a welcome arrival in the Prog.

And, talking of outright silliness, while a new issue of 2000AD is, of course, always good news, let’s not forget that Rebellion is also about to launch its first new comic, Monster Fun, out on 6th April!

Tom Tully is one the most prolific writers ever to grace British comics. His diverse portfolio of work was produced over four decades. Born in Glasgow, he entered the industry in the sixties when he began working for Fleetway. One of his earliest strips, “Heros the Spartan“, ran in the original Eagle, illustrated by Frank Bellamy and, later, Luis Bermejo. He also wrote “Mytek the Mighty” (Valiant, and Vulcan) and “The Steel Claw” (Valiantand Vulcan) in the same decade.

The 1970s saw Tully work on a variety of significant stories including “Adam Eterno” (Thunder, and Lion), “Johnny Red” (Battle), “Harlem Heroes” (2000AD), “The Leopard from Lime Street” (Buster) and “Roy of the Rovers” (Tiger), the strip he worked on longer than any other writer.

Eric Bradbury began his comic career at Knockout, working on such humour strips as “Blossom” and “Our Ernie”. He moved onto the adventure western, “Lucky Logan”, sharing art chores with Mike Western (Bradbury would go on to ink Western’s pencils on “The Leopard from Lime Street“). High profile work on “Mytek the Mighty” (Valiant and Vulcan), “The House of Dolmann” (Valiant), “Von Hoffman’s Invasion” (Jet!), “Death Squad” (Battle), “Hook Jaw” (Action) and “Doomlord” (Eagle) followed. Bradbury has been described as an ‘unsung hero’ of 2000AD, having contributed to many popular strips in the long-running sci-fi comic. His credits in the Galaxy’s Greatest comic include “Rogue Trooper”, “Tharg the Mighty”, “Invasion” and “The Mean Arena”.

John Freeman

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
