Phil-Comics offers “Eric Clapton” BEANO, “The Perishers” original art, and much more in latest auction

eBay comic auctioneers Phil-Comics first sale of 2022 sale, which begins closing this Sunday, includes a copy of The Beano made famous by rock musician Eric Clapton.

The much sought-after edition – No. 1242, cover dated 7th May 1966 – featured on the cover of the blues/blues rock album Blues Breakers, by the legendary Eric Clapton.

Released in July 1966, the album was recorded by John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton as part of the band, the second album credited to John Mayall after the live John Mayall Plays John Mayall.

From the description, it doesn’t sound to be in quite as good a condition as the copy of the same issue Phil-Comics sold last year, but it’s already attracted buds of over £150.

Also on offer is a very rare Beano Book 1941, one of the very best examples seen.

 Beano Book 1941

“This is a beautiful book” says auctioneer Phil Shrimpton, “and has been in our own personal collection since about 2003, when we bought it from the daughter of the original owner. It had been found wrapped in brown paper and stored in a tea chest for most of its life.

“It’s time to sell it on now but we’ve really cherished owning it and its been the prize of our Beano Book collection. At the time of purchase it was streets ahead of any other example we’d seen on the market, and only one or two others have been seen since in a similar condition, one ultimately selling for £700 more than our asking price.”

Here are just a few items from the rest of the the auction, which runs to over 270 lots. On offer are vintage comics, annuals, free gifts, books, bound volumes galore, plus a Dennis the Menace Fan Club set for good measure!
