These three high grade examples were from the Brenda Butler Archive, some more of which are following in this auction with Broons books to the fore and a magnificent copy of the Magic Fun Book from 1942.

At the other end of the 1960s spectrum, International Times was a subversive, underground music paper avidly reporting the rise of those three tantalising taboos: sex, drugs and rock and roll. Fourteen early issues in flat, fresh condition are up for sale. A similar opus from 1970, Cyclops, the first English Adult Comic Paper, is a few lots further on. It only lasted for four issues and they are all here, all scarce.
Art on offer includes Strontium Dog original artwork by Carlos Ezquerra (1988) from the 2000AD Prog 560-572 story “The Stone Killers”, an Oor Wullie original artwork drawn and signed by Dudley Watkins from a 1953 edition of the Sunday Post, a Dudley Watkins pencil sketch of Gran’paw Broon signed and dated 1953, cover art for War Picture Library Issue 184 (‘Danger No Object’ by Studio d’Ami Milan), Robinson Crusoe original artwork painted and signed by John Worsley, a Buster comic original front cover artwork, cover dated 15th October 1988 by Tom Paterson, Pink Panther original colour artwork by John McLusky for TV Comic 1643 and “More About Tony and Tina“, 32 original artworks by Dudley Watkins, art commissioned by religious charity WEC International for the second ‘Tony and Tina’ book.
