Established in 2025 by Jake Archer, Archer’s Comics is a comic book store located in Cornwall’s capital, Truro. You’ll also find them at local events, so stay tuned to their Facebook page for appearances.
“I want Archer’s Comics to be a community,” says Jake, who gained his comic retail experience at St. Austell’s Into The Realm, and ran the e-commerce operation for Bazbo Comics. “A group of like minded individuals all shopping for items they love and can share with others.
“Archer’s Comics will be an inclusive space, your background is not important when you step through the door. We are accepting of all peoples. The comic book industry, while not always getting it right, has often been a socially progressive medium. It has explored characters from all origins, whether that be race, religion, gender and sexuality. I want to represent this too. Stocking products from a diverse pool of creators, to allow anyone who walks through the door to feel seen and accepted. All we ask is when you come into the shop you are also respectful of all of our customers.

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
