Comics Laureate Bobby Joseph continues his mission to promote comics as a medium and reach and encourage new readers, young and old, through workshops, presentations and other events.
Just in the past week, the busy comic creator, whose new book, My Dad Fights Demons! drawn by Abbigayle Bircham is published by SelfMadeHero in September, was at the British Library, discussing how comics can impact reading for children as part of this year’s Inclusive Libraries Conference.

Today, Monday 7th July, he has been in Birmingham at the Literacy Trust Secondary Conference, giving a talk about how comics can be used as a differentiation tool in the classroom.

Today’s appearance follows a previous visit to the Midlands, attending Afroflux in Birmingham in May. He was then in Bolton in June, giving a Laureate talk at Ladybridge School, followed by a visit to Heathcote School in Chingford to present the Rising Star Awards.

“The Head of Art, Miss Sarena Dale, invited me to present these awards to the stars of tomorrow,” Bobby tells us. “Both winners have drawn their own diverse comic strips.”

More recently, he was in Surbiton, at Corner House Arts, along with American cartoonist John Patrick Green, who Bobby introduced in front of a packed theatre of children, and quickly fired up the crowd!

Expect an as-yet unannounced appearance at a major independent comic event in August, followed by both Bobby and Abbigayle appearing at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in September.
