Comic creator and illustrator Charlie Adlard will be at The Soden Collection in Shrewsbury this Saturday, 5th October 2024, for a special book signing of his latest book, Coffee Shop, marking the launch of a new exhibition that runs there until 12th October.

While he might be best known for capturing the horror of the zombie apocalypse, Charlie’s newest work brings Shrewsbury’s thriving cafe culture to life, depicting local faves in his distinctive graphic style, and including some favourite “coffee quotes”.
“‘Coffee Shop’ [is] basically me sitting in a coffee shop and drawing life as I see it,” Charlie explained earlier this year. “Getting back to my roots. I thought it would be a nice idea to have some quotes to go along with the art about coffee shop culture.”

The ‘Coffee Shop’ exhibition at The Soden Collection features stunning original art and limited-edition prints from the new book, which costs £20. In addition, original artwork from the book is available for purchase, ranging from £150 – £250. All profits go to The Hive, supporting Shrewsbury’s arts community.
To celebrate 25 years of The Hive, The Soden Collection also have three exclusive limited edition prints, in an edition of 25, for £25 each, signed and numbered by Charlie.

Charlie Adlard has been a “veteran” of the comic industry for over 25 years. He’s spent the majority of his time since 2003 working on The Walking Dead, which finished in 2019, and has received many industry awards for his work on the series culminating in winning the Sergio Aragonés International Award for Excellence in Comic Art in 2019. In his time as a comic creator he has worked on many other projects as far reaching as Mars Attacks, The X-Files, Judge Dredd and Savage for 2000AD, Batman, X-Men, Superman and more, and creator-owned projects closer to his heart like Astronauts In Trouble, Breath Of The Wendigo, Codeflesh, Rock Bottom, Vampire State Building, White Death, Damn Them All, and Altamont.
Jonathan Soden set up The Soden Collection in 2017, an art gallery working with emerging British artists, to present a carefully selected portfolio of original, quality work by artists who are increasingly establishing their reputation in the contemporary art market.
The Hive is a charity organisation running wellbeing projects across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. They are also a venue offering creative activities, gigs, films, art exhibitions and more based in the heart of Shrewsbury town centre.
