US publisher Dynamite Entertainment is running a Kickstarter campaign to publish Soo Lee‘s Wonderful Wizard of Oz graphic novel.

Delivering a beautiful, unrivalled interpretation of the original Wizard of Oz film, on offer is what Dynamite is successfully pitching the book, the art already completed, as “a once in a lifetime adaptation that delivers a timeless classic”, in the amazing artwork of a 21st century comics artist.
Soo Lee is an acclaimed comic book artist known for her evocative style and boundary-pushing storytelling, Renowned for her work with Marvel, DC, and indie publishers alike, she brings her signature blend of moody elegance and modern surrealism to The Wizard of Oz, reimagining the beloved 1939 film in a bold original graphic interpretation.
With a background steeped in both fine art and pop culture, Lee, best known for her work on House of Slay, Red Sonja, and more, infuses each panel with vivid emotion, intricate detail, and a distinctly cinematic atmosphere breathing fresh, electrifying life into this timeless tale.

“I’m not reinventing the wheel, but I’m adding my interpretation to the history of this legendary story,” she says. “I was allowed more pages to indulge in and take my time on certain scenes, so I took advantage of the comics medium, as well as added scenes that were deleted from the film. So there may be things some fans of the movie may not have known about! I wanted to really shine light on Dorothy and her friends’ relationships and emotions.”
The Wizard of Oz has captivated audiences for over 85 years, since its release in 1939. Its lush colour technology and art direction wowed moviegoers and remains stunning to this day. Around that same era, the comics and cartooning form was innovating the nascent “comic book” format and rapidly evolving styles. Now in 2025, these two mediums are celebrated together with this can’t-miss tome.

“In this spellbinding new work, Lee doesn’t just revisit the yellow brick road, she completely transforms it,” Dynamite enthuse of this 85th anniversary celebration of the landmark film. “Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion emerge with haunting beauty and depth, reinterpreted through a lens that fuses gothic whimsy, Eastern influences, and dark fantasy. The Land of Oz has never looked so alive or perilous.
“With lush watercolour textures, experimental panel layouts, and unexpected visual twists, Lee’s The Wizard of Oz invites readers to rediscover a classic story through an entirely new, dreamlike lens.”
Well known for her incredible atmospheric work, Soo Lee has taken every minute of the movie everyone grew up on and turned it into a masterpiece of the comics medium.
In addition to the book itself, this limited Kickstarter campaign, which has utterly smashed its target with 18 days to go, offers fans exclusive extras.

The four covers by top tier artists Soo Lee, Jae Lee, Alex Ross and Eric Shanower are also showcased and offered as high-quality lithograph prints at 11 by 17 inches on premium stock. Perfect for framing and displaying, Oz fans will want to consider these add-ons, especially if they don’t want to miss another piece of art they love and did not select for their copy of the book.
