GAME for success? Feature film by 2000AD’s Rob Williams earning critic kudos

GAME, a feature film written by 2000AD’s Rob Williams, enjoying a limited run in UK cinemas now, and has been getting plenty of critical praise.

A project from Invada Films, GAME, a black comedy, is produced and co-written by Geoff Barrow of Portishead and directed and co-written by John Minton.

Late summer 1993. After stealing a stash of money and drugs, ageing raver David (Marc Bessant) crashes his car deep in the woods – and, trapped in the wreckage, injured and helpless, he hangs suspended between life and death.

When a mysterious poacher (Jason Williamson) discovers him, no rescue comes, only a watchful, unsettling presence that seems intent on letting nature finish the job. As the hours stretch and the elements close in, a tense and claustrophobic battle of wills, and wits, unfolds, where survival hinges on outlasting both the wilderness and the predator at its edge…

The film opened last month and is screening across the UK & Ireland, with more dates and Ireland screenings this month. Screenings include a Q&A featuring members of the cast and crew.

The Nick Grimshaw show on 6 Music made GAME their film recommendation of the week, and it’s also received four star reviews from the Evening Standard and White Little Lies, who described it as a “a taut, lean and claustrophobic homegrown thriller.”

Check if your local arthouse cinema is planning to show GAME. Upcoming screenings are coming up at Queen’s Film Theatre in Belfast and Bristol Watershed.
