Rebellion Unplugged, the Tabletop Gaming division of 2000AD publishers Rebellion, has smashed its crowdfunding target for its reinvention of Tunnels & Trolls, a bold reimagining of the world’s second ever roleplaying game.

With just under a month to run on Kickstarter, Tunnels & Trolls: A New Age has secured over £60,000 in support from RPG fans – smashing its original £20,000 target.
Tunnels & Trolls (abbreviated T&T) is a fantasy role-playing game designed by Ken St. Andre, first published in 1975 by Flying Buffalo. The second modern role-playing game published, it was written by Ken St. Andre to be a more accessible alternative to Dungeons & Dragons and is suitable for solitaire, group, and play-by-mail gameplay.
Rebellion acquired the game in 2023.
“When I first discovered Tunnels & Trolls in the mid-1970s, I didn’t realise I was unlocking a life-long interest in fantasy roleplaying games, books, movies, and all things genre-based” Rebellion CEO and Creative Director Jason Kingsley OBE said at the time. “The game has remained with me throughout my life, and I can’t wait to see what the team have in store for it!”

Tunnels & Trolls: A New Age is a reimagining of the classic game, where combat is as easy and lightning-quick as it is immediate and thrilling; where your characters can be ordinary folk or fated heroes; and where adventures take you deep into dark tunnels and face-to-face with ancient trolls and powerful magicks.
Beloved in the original game, exploding dice make a triumphant return, with players rolling pools of dice that burst into action on successful doubles, rewarding daring stunts and clever play, while courting danger at every turn.

Solo adventures are also back at the heart of Tunnels & Trolls with Into the Maw: A T&T Solo Sidequest, letting you take your campaign character on side quests whenever your party cannot meet, ensuring the adventure never has to stop.
Tunnels Trolls has been lovingly reborn for a new generation of fantasy roleplayers, blending the spirit of theoriginal with the best of modern tabletop design. The result is a fresh, streamlined ruleset that is easy to learn for newcomers while evolving the most loved elements of the classic game for veteran fans.

Rebellion Unplugged is the Tabletop Gaming division of Rebellion, one of Europe’s largest independent creative studios. Their games also include Sniper Elite: The Board Game and the Joyride range.
You have to wonder if, with the success of both Rebellion’s Atomfall game and Hawk the Slayer in comics form, in Judge Dredd Megazine and 2000AD, might a Tunnels & Trolls comic or strip also be in the works?
After all, Tunnels & Trolls was also the first system to publish a series of fantasy-themed game books, adventures designed to be played by one person, without the need for a referee. At least twenty such adventures were published by Flying Buffalo. The Fighting Fantasy series achieved great popularity using this format.
As part of the acquisition Rebellion also took over Flying Buffalo’s entire line of roleplaying games, including the cult classic Citybook, Grimtooth, and Mercenaries, Spies and Private Eyes series. The entire back-catalogue of Flying Buffalo PDFs remain available to purchase online, with future releases coming directly from Rebellion Unplugged.
