After the worldwide success of My Life as a Courgette, director Claude Barras strikes again with Savages, a masterpiece of stop motion animation coming to Ciné Lumière, London, for special previews from Thursday, 19th July 2025.

The film was released in France, Belgium, and Switzerland last October, after several Festival screenings, including the London Film Festival.

This time, Barras calls for environmental protection through a funny, engaging and heartfelt film questioning indigenous rights and deforestation.

In Borneo, at the edge of the tropical forest, Kéria (voiced by Babette De Coster) is given a baby orangutan that has been rescued from the oil palm plantation where her father works. At the same time, her young cousin Selaï (Martin Verset) has come to live with them, seeking refuge from the conflict between his nomadic family and the logging companies.

Together, Kéria, Selaï and the little ape will battle the destruction of their ancestral forest home, now under greater threat than ever. But for Kéria, the fight will also allow her to discover the truth of her own origins.

Savages (in French with English subtitles) runs from Saturday 19th July to Sunday 31st August 2025, Various Times, at Ciné Lumière, 17 Queensberry Place London SW7 2DT | Book Tickets
