Slingsby Bros Ink! has just published Paul Wright‘s September Wood – a love letter to his past.

Drawn from Paul’s life experience and people he encountered along the way, the story introduces us to the odd characters of a small village as they navigate the mysteries of a universe actively talking to them.
And Paul’s life has been something to write and draw about. As one of the world’s premier marine artists, Paul is the son of one of Britain’s most celebrated pin-up artists and serial storytellers, David Wright, creator of Carol Day, who himself came from an artistic family that stood at the forefront of consumer advertising in the early 20th century.
In September Wood, black-and-white drawings are the visual backdrop for Wright’s tale. He presents the drawings in a unique format intended to gently pace us through the complex and delicate story he shares. It’s a beautifully composed and rendered window into his boyhood.

Born in 1947, Paul Wright studied at the Farnham School of Art in the 1960s,
since when he has been a full-time and highly successful maritime painter and
illustrator. A Member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, his work is represented in the Permanent Collection Royal Navy Museum, Portsmouth, and is included in numerous public and private collections around the world, including the National Museum of the Royal Navy and The U.S. Naval War College Foundation.
Other commissions include one of HMS Chatham and HMY Britannia in Hong Kong during the handover to China in 1997, a reproduction of the original painting that hung in the smoking room of the RMS Titanic, produced for a Channel 4 series, two large murals for the Sultan of Abu Dhabi and murals for the Cunard liner “Queen Mary II”.

Paul’s paintings also feature in the book Hearts of Steel, published by Halstar Publishing in 2009. He has undertaken illustration commissions for over one hundred different publishing companies throughout the world, creating covers for books by authors such as Patrick O’Brian, Dudley Pope, C.S. Forester, Nicholas Monsarrat, Douglas Reeman, J.G. Ballard and Ludovic Kennedy.

Founded by Roger Clark, Chris Killackey and Guy Mills, US independent publisher Slingsby Bros Ink! has quickly established a name for itself, primarily as the publisher of the beautifully-presented collection of the Carol Day newspaper strip collections, offered in prestige formats; and the English language edition of the glorious graphic novel, In Search of Lost Tintin, by Brazilian comic creator, Ricardo Leite.
