EC1 Łódź in Poland and La Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image in Angoulême have announced a partnership to present a major international exhibition dedicated to artist Grzegorz Rosiński, the co-creator of the internationally acclaimed comic hero, Thorgal.

Published in the UK by Cinebook, Thorgal is a popular Franco-Belgian bande dessinée created by writer Jean Van Hamme and artist Grzegorz Rosiński, first published in 1977 in Tintin magazine.
The series follows the adventures of the titular hero, Thorgal Aegirsson, a noble Viking-like warrior from a mysterious star-faring origin, who is driven by his love for his family, especially his wife Aaricia, and a quest for justice in a fantasy world blending Norse mythology with science fiction.

Grzegorz Rosiński is a Polish artist whose works have captured the imagination of several generations of readers throughout Europe. His recognisable, applauded style combines the precision of an illustrator with an epic graphic narrative. His work remains an important touchstone for both French-speaking comics and the Polish school of illustration.
The exhibition is a joint venture by the EC1 Łódź – Miasto Kultury, in cooperation with the Instytut Polski w Paryżu (Polish Institute of Paris), Éditions Caurette and the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image d’Angoulême, where it will be presented.

The upcoming exhibition, which will open in June 2026 will explore the universe of Thorgal through a selection of original pages, sketches, illustrations and archival materials, highlighting Rosiński’s creative process and artistic legacy.
The exhibition draws on material held by EC1 Łódź, in Poland where the artist deposited a large part of his original work, exhibited within the Centrum Komiksu i Narracji Interaktywnej.

This project continues the Grzegorz Rosiński exhibition designed by Piotr Rosiński presented in Poland in 2023-2024, but offering a new international interpretation of the artist’s work.
The exhibition in Angoulême, curated by Piotr Rosiński and Anne-Claire Norot, is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland as part of the Inspiring Culture 2025–2026 program.
