National Cartoonists Society 2020 Reuben Awards – Call for Submissions

National Cartoonists SocietyThe National Cartoonists Society – a US-based organisation of professional cartoonists in the United States, but with a chapter in the UK thanks to its partnership with the Lakes International Comic Art Festival – has issued a reminder about its annual call for entries to its Reuben Awards.

Each year, during the NCS Annual Reuben Awards Weekend, the Society honours the year’s outstanding achievements in all walks of the profession. The recipient of the profession’s highest honour, the Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year is chosen by a secret ballot of the members.

The Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded by unanimous vote of the NCS Board of Directors, as is the Silver T-Square, an award that recognises outstanding service to the Society and the profession.

Submissions must be delivered to their respective locations by 23rd January 2020 for consideration and as always, you do not have to be a member of the NCS to have your work considered for a divisional award. All that is required is that the work be eligible according to guidelines, available to read in full here on the NCS web site, which includes links to required forms that need to be submitted.

In the interest of ensuring that the NCS Divisional Reuben Awards are representative of the very best work produced in each category, and that all of NCS regional chapters have the opportunity to be involved in the nomination process, the following procedures will be followed. The regional NCS chapters will jury the following divisions: Newspaper Panel, Newspaper Strip, Gag Cartoon, Editorial Cartoons and the Variety Entertainment division. The results of the chapter nominations from these five divisions will be added together and the top eight nominees in each division will be voted for online by the entire NCS voting membership.

The following divisions will be juried by specialty juries due to the length and/or complexity of the work being considered: Book Illustration, Magazine & Newspaper Illustration, Greeting Cards, Comic Books, Graphic Novels, Advertising/Product Illustration, Online Comics – Short Form, Online Comics – Long Form, Feature Animation, Television Animation and Online Animation division.

• Submissions must be delivered to their respective locations by 23rd January 2020 for consideration. All winners will be announced at the 74th Annual Reuben Awards Dinner in Kansas City, MO on 6th June 2020 | A list of the categories with the jury representative and the address to which you may send your entry is here on the NCS web site
