It’s a crossover you perhaps never expected to see, but Warner Bros Consumer Products and DC Entertainment have just revealed the first full character creative artwork for the brand collaboration between Hello Kitty and DC Comics Super Heroes.
The collaboration between Sanrio and DC Comics, first announced back in June, aims to join together the popular licences in order to extend the appeal of the brands across the globe.
Set to debut at retailers around the world next year, the heroic Hello Kitty will appear on apparel, accessories and footwear, stationery, publishing, personal care, promotional products and food products from a variety of top-tier licensing partners.
For those of you who may be living under a rock, Hello Kitty is a fictional character produced by the Japanese company Sanrio, first designed by Yuko Shimizu. A staple of the kawaii segment of Japanese popular culture, Sanrio has groomed Hello Kitty into a global marketing phenomenon worth over £3 billion pounds a year.
“This unique partnership joins two powerhouse brands that have a universal popularity across a variety of demographics,” commented Pilar Zulueta, executive vice president and general manager, Warner Bros Consumer Products EMEA.
“We know the collaboration will excite fans of both properties who will be thrilled to see these global icons come together as Hello Kitty dressed as Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Batgirl, her favourite DC Comics Super Heroes.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Warner Bros Consumer Products and DC Entertainment to give Hello Kitty ‘super hero powers’,” said Stefano Mastropropietro, COO, Sanrio GmbH.
“Both Hello Kitty and the DC Comics Super Heroes are universally beloved and this fun initiative is sure to pack a playful punch in the EMEA territories whne product launches next year.”
