DC Thomson’s strips The Broons and Oor Wullie are Scottish favourites in the weekly Sunday Post newspaper’s Fun Section since 1936. Indeed, in showing that humour comic strips could be popular with the newspaper’s readership, they paved the way for the launch of, firstly, The Dandy in 1937 and then The Beano in 1938.
The artistic creator of both The Broons and Oor Wullie in 1936 was Dudley D Watkins, who would continue to draw both strips, as well as many others for the company, until his untimely death in 1969.
For 2022, both calendars feature artwork by Watkins, with each month displaying either a selection of strip panels or a single panel from each strip sensitively coloured from the original published black and white.
Both calendars are available from the DC Thomson on-line shop for £7.99 including UK postage, however for a limited time, until Sunday 17th October 2021, using the code SAVE15 will offer a 15% saving on the cover prices. This saving is also available on other DC Thomson annuals and calendars including the Commando calendar for 2022.
