Namco Bandai has just launched a free digital comic – Dark Souls II: Into the Light – created by three leading British comic creators to promote the upcoming release of it Dark Souls II game.

The new comic, set in the Dark Souls universe, features an original story written by Rob Williams and Andi Ewington with art provided by Simon Coleby.(Colouring on the title is by Len O’Grady and lettering by Troy Peteri)

Two new pages from Dark Souls II: Into the Light comic will be revealed every week from today, 8th January 2014 and so on until the release of Dark Souls II on 14th  March.

“I was delighted to learn that Namco Bandai and FromSoft leapt at my idea to produce a pre-order comic leading up to launch of the hugely anticipated Dark Souls II,” says Andi. “Not only have I been instrumental in the production of this, but I co-wrote the comic with Rob.”

Rob Williams’ credits include Ghost Rider, Daken, Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark X-Men, Cla$$war and the 2013 British Comic Award nominated Judge Dredd: Trifecta.

Andi Ewington’s  breakthrough debut novel 45 won critical acclaim from reviewers and fans alike, and has recently claimed a #1 Amazon UK Kindle Superhero bestseller spot.

Simon Coleby’s credits include creating art for Marvel UK, Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper and the The Authority series from DC/Wildstorm. He also worked on the 2013 British Comic Award nominated Judge Dredd: Trifecta.

Asked about their collaboration around the comic, the authors said that “Gothic environments, unworldly monsters, eldritch atmosphere, adventure and terror” are the best arguments that an artist could wish for.

When it comes down to the storyline they only whispered “Before you venture into the darkness, pay heed to those who know what awaits within…”.

Accompanying the comic release, Namco have also released this video of Simon at work on a Dark Souls page. We’re reliably informed he does not work this fast normally…

The Dark Souls II game will be launching in Europe and Australasia on 14th March 2014 on the PlayStation3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 video game entertainment system. The PC edition will follow shortly in 2014.
