Nottingham Comic Con guest list expands, huge exhibitor line-up planned

The second ever Nottingham Comic Con (previously known as Nerd Fest) on Saturday 4th October will be double the size of last year’s event, hosting 13 guests, over 150 exhibitor tables and live music. The event will also have the Star Wars-inspired UK Garrison team with them  again as well as Q&A panels, gaming demos, kid’s face painting, charity raffle plus a whole lot more.

The guests are the talented artist, Verity Glass, who has worked on numerous comics including Doctor Who and Professor Elemental; Doctor Who writer and artist Dan McDaid, whose credits also include Jersey Gods and Mind the Gap and has worked on titles by Image Comics, Oni Press and others; Phoenix Comic artist Gary Northfield; Beano artist Steve Beckett; NME, Guardian and Lakes International Comic Art Festival mascot co-creator Jonathan Edwards; Star Wars, Marvel and Roller Grrrls artist Gary Erskine; Great Beast co-publisher and artist Marc Ellerby; Beano artist Laura Howell; artist and illustrator Marc Laming; illustrator, and conceptual and storyboard artist Chris Wildgoose, whose art on the graphic novel Porcelain was simply astonishing;  illustrator, designer, cartoonist and lecturer Dan Berry; and the brilliant John McCrea, who has illustrated iconic characters such as Batman,Superman, Wonder Woman, the Hulk, Spider Man, Daredevil, Wolverine, Star Wars, Judge Dredd and The Simpsons, among others.

The convention is supporting three charities through this year’s event  – The Ear Trust, the Marfan Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support – and £1 of every standard ticket sold will be donated.

The founder of downthetubes, John works as a comics editor, writer, as Creative Consultant on the Dan Dare audio adventures for B7 Media, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. Working in British comics publishing for over 30 years, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Star Trek Magazine and Babylon 5 Magazine. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War and “Dan Dare”. He’s the writer of “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz, published on Tapastic; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood for digital comic 100% Biodegradable.
