The Heist Of Hollow London, featuring a cover by Alex Eckman-Lawn, is another intriguing sounding SF story from Eddie, whose previous novels in the genre were a comedy conspiracy thriller called Tomorrow Never Knows (2015), Hearts Of Oak (2020), a weird tale of architecture, alienation and talking cats, and Drunk On All Your Strange New Words (2022), a locked-room murder mystery with aliens.

His new story is set in a not-too-distant future where Oakseed, one of Earth’s largest corporations, has unexpectedly collapsed. As all its assets are sold, five clones produced by the corporation are purchased by someone who wants them to go to a small, crumbling outpost of the corporation, located in the failed and near-abandoned city of London, and steal a vast sum of money that’s been concealed there.

The crew are all low-status workers with no experience of such things. Arlo and Drienne are ‘brand ambassadors’ tasked with making sales on the street; Nadi is a security guard; Loren works in tech support; and Kline is in HR. But they all know the workings of the company, and none of them have a choice. It’s the only shot at true freedom any of them will ever get.

As anyone who’s familiar with heist stories will know, the meticulous plan always goes off without a hitch.

In addition to his science fiction novels, Eddie Robson’s comics work includes scripts for 2000AD, Marvel, IDW, Doctor Who Adventures, Transformers Prime and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He also wrote The Art Of Sean Phillips, published in 2013, about the work of the eponymous comics artist. (Not to be confused with the recently announced The 2000AD Art of Sean Phillips, due for release in October).

Eddie has also written a lot of short stories and audio plays connected to Doctor Who, mostly for Big Finish Productions. A regular contributor to Doctor Who Magazine, he wrote several episodes of BBC Radio 4 Extra’s Doctor Who series, mostly starring Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith.

Eddie also writes for radio and television, with credits including episodes of CBeebies’ Tish Tash (2021-22) and Sarah & Duck (2015-16), Channel 4’s Hollyoaks (2014-15) and the Chinese adaptation of Humans (2020). He created the BBC radio sitcom Welcome To Our Village, Please Invade Carefully (2012-14) which ran for two series, as well as the Audible rom-com Car Crash (2021), and the children’s series The Space Programme (2020), which aired on Fun Kids Radio.

He’s written for various sketch shows, including That Mitchell And Webb Sound, Small Scenes, 2525, Look Away Now, Recorded For Training Purposes, Newsjack (which I also script edited) and Play And Record; and worked with The Dukes in Lancaster several times, including writing their 2015 Christmas show, Beauty And The Beast.

Books for children and teenagers, mostly about computer games, include the Secrets Of A Fortnite Fan series. He also wrote a computer game of his own, the horror mystery Liminal Hotel, for Richcast.

Eddie has also published books about the Coen Brothers and film noir, academic essays on film, television and comics, and have written reviews, interviews and articles for publications including The Guardian, The New Statesman, SFX, Film Review and Death Ray.
