The Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics is looking for book reviewers.
Published six times a year via Taylor & Francis, this academic title covers all aspects of the graphic novel, comic strip and comic book focusing primarily, but not exclusively, on the twentieth and the twenty-first centuries. The emphasis is on the production and consumption of comics in their cultural, institutional and creative contexts.

The journal aims to reflect not only standard forms such as the superhero and other genres of the comic book, but also the increasing interest in modern forms and emerging genres of the comic, for instance, medicine, psychology and, autobiography. Its scope is international, covering not only English language comics but also worldwide comic culture, recently featuring articles about European, Indian, Japanese and Korean comics.
The team behind Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics would like to extend into other comic cultures in Australia, Africa, South America and Scandinavia.
“We are interested in the production and consumption of comics and their context within culture and the mass media, for instance within promotional culture, digital technologies and fandom,” they outline on the Journal’s website. “The journal aims to reflect and encourage the widest breadth of approaches to the comic, as a mass medium, and its associated forms.”
“I am looking for fellow book-review enthusiasts to join our team and help fellow scholars get interested in recent global comics scholarship,” says Book Review editor Dr. Eszter Szép, an educator, researcher, comics artist who is currently doing a postdoctoral researcher in comics and wellbeing at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland.
“If you are interested in reviewing books for the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics, please contact me (eszterszep AT gmail DOT com).”

Doctoral students, postdocs, independent scholars, as well as tenured and non-tenured faculty are all welcome. When contacting Eszter, please write a few lines about yourself. If you already have a title in mind, do not hesitate to share it.
“Book suggestions are extremely welcome as there is a lot going on with publishers,” Eszter says. “I am happy to facilitate getting you a copy of your chosen title. Sadly (for those who love physical copies) many publishers only send PDFs.”
Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics is a hybrid open access journal that is part of the Taylor & Francis Open Select publishing program, giving you the option to publish open access. Publishing open access means that your article will be free to access online immediately on publication, increasing the visibility, readership, and impact of your research.
