Young Comics Laureate “Scribble Campaign” Launched

Young Comics Laureate Mollie Ray (Ray), creator of critically acclaimed graphic novel Giant, has launched Scribble through the Struggle, a campaign with a wellbeing focus many comic creators will surely identify with.

Ray, who was made Young Comics Laureate 2025/26 last September.

“As part of my time in the role I’m asking artists to take part in the Instagram campaign #ScribbleThroughTheStruggle – sharing a moment where you could have given up on your creative dream, but didn’t – and what helped you keep going.”

Here’s the Full Brief from Ray and Comics Youth. Do note you need to participate by Wednesday 15th April 2026.

The Brief

Either in the form of a video or written quote (or a short comic, if you’re feeling adventurous!) share with us your moment. Videos must be portrait, not exceed 3 minutes and quotes must be a maximum of 100 words.

Every post will include a gentle prompt inviting young people to respond, through a word, a doodle, or a reflection.

You will then receive your quote/video in the campaigns visual template, and a practical prompt for your audience (If you would like to come up with your own, feel free!)

John Freeman

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more.
