The latest issue of The Jester, the monthly magazine of The Cartoonists’ Club of Great Britain, available to members, features a fascinating interview with Pete Songi, about the bi-monthly digital publication, The New Cartoonist.

Put together by the editorial team of Simon and Josephine Chadwick, The Jester is always an enjoyable read, this issue offering, among other things, guidance on preparing digital files for print (it’s always easier to scale down than up!)
Behind a cover by “Ace”, the winner of the latest monthly cartoon challenge. This month’s theme was “Grow”, there’s a plethora of cartoons to enjoy, and Simon Chadwick’s brilliant in-depth interview with Pete Songi; plus Rich Skipworth continues his guide to using the digital drawing tool, Procreate, offering tips I hope will eventually be collected in one place, because they’re very useful!
The Cartoonists’ Club of Great Britain, who are returning to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in Kendal later this year, is open to new members, offering not only The Jester magazine but regular online hook ups to discuss matters comic.
If you’re interested in joining, then as a further carrot to encourage you, the next online event in June will be looking at merchandising services which turn art into mugs, coasters, t-shirts and so forth; and at promotional platforms (Facebook, Substack and the like) through which creators showcase portfolios. Could be very useful to anyone wanting to explore the best avenues to get their work “out there”.
