John Charles and Barry May’s Technofreak Goes to the Movies!

British independent comic creators John Charles and Barry May have produced a new short film featuring their popular character, TechnoFreak.

Available to watch on YouTube, the film, directed and edited by Steve Mercer, written by John and Barry, sees TechnoFreak arrive in the 21st century – and immediately head to the pub. There, he encounters some very familiar faces – well, familiar to those of you who know what his creators look like, anyway!

For the film, shot in Guildford, John’s hometown, Technofreak’s costume, and the film’s theme song, are the work of Andy MacInnes, a graphic designer for The Vapors, of “Turning Japanese” fame, and has doubled for William Hartnell ‘s First Doctor for the BBC. Technofreak’s buddy, Maurice the Cat, also makes an appearance (watch the credits!), designed by comic creator Hal Laren, who, by the way, has a new Kickstarter up and running for his latest project, Trojan Cobalt.

Locations include a graveyard and Rogues Bar, and features Sophie Good in the cast, along with some of the pub’s regular bar staff, the Charlie and Harry Messent.

John hopes the film offers “proof of concept” for his bonkers character to be turned into a full-length feature film – so watch out Marvel… and, of course, that it will help promote his comics. A new issue of Technofreak is currently in the works.

Watch the Film, Buy the Comics!

The last of the Technofreaks, Jon is part man, part machine, and is arguably the smartest man on the planet, but quite possibly the drunkest, too.

In the thoroughly enjoyable comics, published by Sunday Lunch Comics, you will also meet Maurice, Jon’s sarcastic robot cat, and Loretta, the love of his life, as well as Neville Brady, a one-man wrecking crew, and Greta Krauss, Neville’s no-nonsense German sweetheart.

The comics offer an action-packed roller-coaster ride as Jon rights wrongs, fights foes, and saves damsels in distress, but mostly hangs out in pubs, living his best life.

It’s fun, frantic, and feline-friendly! You’ll love it!
