DK have just published Star Trek Timelines, a 336-page hardcover from DK charting Trek history from the Big Bang to the end of the universe, the work of four expert authors.
Written by four authors steeped in Star Trek lore – Derek Tyler Attico, Michael Dismuke (who I enjoyed working with while editing Star Trek Explorer), Kelli Fitzpatrick and Jim Johnson – with a foreword from Kate Mulgrew (Captain Kathryn Janeway), this official book has been meticulously researched, and should prove an indispensable gift for fans as the franchise celebrates its 60th anniversary.
Not to be confused with the game of the same name, the book was commissioned in early 2025, and Jim Johnson has previously noted the team spent 19 or so months researching, writing, and collaborating with their editors at DK Books and the review team at CBS and Paramount on this monumental undertaking.

Explore hundreds of events in the Star Trek Prime universe, and many alternate realities, too. Star Trek Timelines spans the entire breadth of the iconic franchise from Star Trek: The Original Series through to its latest series, including Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Discover fascinating alternate timelines from the infamous Mirror Universe to the Kelvin timeline and Star Trek: Voyager’s Year of Hell. From Michael Burnham to Jean-Luc Picard, feature spreads cover iconic characters’ evolutions through space and time.

Star Trek Timelines: The Authors
Derek Tyler Attico is a bestselling, award-winning speculative fiction author, photographer, screenwriter, and role-playing game designer. He recently joined Atlanta-based creator-first media studio Subsume’s Soul Nebula team as creative consultant and writer, an “Afrofuturism Space Opera Comic Book” currently seeking support on Kickstarter.

Derek’s first screenplay won the Excellence in Playwriting Award from the Dramatists Guild of America, his debut short story placed first in the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Anthology contest, and he received a Scribe Award nomination for his first novel, Star Trek: The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko. As a dedicated educator, he teaches storytelling for sequential art and mentors writers through workshops. Derek also advocates for the arts and human rights, contributes to the Star Trek Adventures tabletop role-playing game, and hosts the podcast Soul of the Story, exploring the craft of storytelling with creative professionals.

Michael Dismuke is a writer, editor, podcaster, producer, workshop presenter, and corporate communicator with a passion for storytelling across genres and platforms. He is the lead writer of Captain’s Log Solo RPG and a contributor to over 20 Star Trek Adventures publications from Modiphius Entertainment. It was a pleasure to work with him, if briefly, while editing Star Trek Explorer.
In 2011, Michael self-published his Gamemasters manga, earning a spot on San Diego Comic Con’s Comic Connection panel. As part of The Yellow Hand, he collaborates on RPGs like Ashland, Sentience, and Tales of Menace & Mystery. As co-host of the Continuing Conversations podcast, Michael explores the TTRPG and storytelling space. He also leads workshops at conventions and conferences, helping individuals and organisations unlock the power of narrative.

Kelli Fitzpatrick is a science fiction writer, gamewriter, and teacher. She authored the 2025 novel Captain Marvel: Carol Danvers Declassified and writes for the Star Trek Adventures role-playing game from Modiphius. Her Star Trek story “The Sunwalkers” won the 2016 Strange New Worlds contest from Simon and Schuster. Her short fiction is published by Baen Books, Flash Fiction Online, and more, and her essays on sci-fi pop culture appear in StarTrek.com and Women at Warp. She has written for NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope outreach team and Arizona State University’s Interplanetary Initiative. She teaches fiction craft and gamewriting at Iowa State University and at conventions across the country.

Jim Johnson is the author of several Star Trek stories and essays, the Potomac Shadows urban fantasy series, the Pistols & Pyramids weird western series, and a variety of other writings. He is the project manager and line editor for the Star Trek Adventures and Captain’s Log roleplaying games, both published by Modiphius Entertainment.
Jim is also the co-host of the Continuing Conversations podcast, which celebrates Star Trek and the power of creative, collaborative storytelling. When he’s not writing, editing, or watching some form of Star Trek, you can find him building new creations with LEGO building bricks, reading voraciously, or making a mean bowl of popcorn.
