The Forever War – graphic novel trailer and Sneak Peek

Next week (5th December 2017) sees Titan Comics hotly-anticipated release of SF legend Joe Haldeman‘s The Forever War – a stunning graphic novel adaptation of the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning novel.

Beautifully illustrated by legendary artist Marvano, and adapted for comics by Marvano and Gay Haldeman, The Forever War is an epic story of humanity, frailty, and the horror of war.

First published by Dupuis in 1988 in Belgium and widely translated, the graphic novel is closely based on the award-winning novel by Joe Haldeman, who has noted that he “supplied all of the dialogue and scripted [the comic] like a movie”. Drawn in the ligne claire style and originally published in Dutch as De Eeuwige Oorlog, it tells the story of William Mandella, an elite soldier fighting for Earth in a centuries-long interstellar war against the ‘Taurans’. The series focuses mainly on the dehumanising effects of war and its attendant bureaucracy.

The comic series was well received and spawned a follow-up trilogy series, A New Beginning, set in the same universe, mainly after the millennium-long war has finished. That’s told primarily from the viewpoint of Marygay Potter, one of the main characters of the original comic trilogy and has a number of connections with events in the follow-up novel Forever Free, and the novella A Separate War, describing the time of separation between the two main characters from Marygay’s perspective.

Joe Haldeman is an ultimate household name in science fiction. A Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart recipient, since the original publication of The Forever War, Joe has maintained a continuous string of SF classics, and as a long-time Professor of Creative Writing at M.I.T., is widely acknowledged as a key mentor figure to many of this generation’s top SF stars.

The Forever War graphic novel adaptation comes with a stunning cover by artist Steve Kurth (Iron Man Legacy) and hits the shops on 5th December 2017
