Lurking in the latest Catawiki US Comic Artworks Auction, presumably in error, is are pages of “Adam Eterno” from the British weekly, Lion and Thunder, which might just be of interest to fans of the immortal wanderer, and a “Popeye” page from TV Comic, too.
Featuring art by the series definitive artist, Francisco Solano Lopez, the date on the back helped identify the page as initially published in Lion and Thunder cover dated 2nd September 1972, Eterno on a mission to find El Dorado, the lost City of Gold… an adventure fraught with danger for him, since only gold can kill him.
What’s not like about a page that sees Adam battling angry giant frogs? Check it out here… bidding is currently at €73 and the auction, which also includes a tasty “Popeye” page from TV Comic by Bill Mevin, first published in Issue 1556 in 1981, closes on 22nd October 2025.

Work by American artists Alex Ross and Curt Swan (a Superman page), also features.
At the point in Lion‘s long run when this, “Adam Eterno”, who made his debut in Thunder in 1970, initially drawn by Tom Kerr, was part of a lineup in Lion that also included “Spellbinder”, “Carson’s Cubs”, “The War of the White Eyes”, “The Last of the Harkers”, “Black Max”, Dr. Mesmer’s Revenge”, “Fury’s Family”, “The Spider”, “Steel Commando”, “Spot the Clue with Zip Nolan”, and, of course, “Mowser”. Plenty of variety of there to entertain!
If the current price of the art is too much for you, you can usually find copies of the original comic on eBay for a reasonable price. In fact, seller
Beano Comic X has plenty of copies of Lion for sale right now, including this issue.

I have to say, the title’s editor does seem to have something of a predilection for putting deadly flying beasts on its cover!
