Under an emerald sky and surrounded by an endless scrapheap St. Jerome and a Cat discuss the birds and the bees, the seasons, temptation, signs, birthdays, omens, ear-wax, holding onto things, doorways, soap-boxes, hygiene, out-of-body-experiences, mysterious sounds and many more vital topics.

Edward Taylor, also creator of Godzilla’s Lockdown Diary and Godzilla Tries to Get Out, won first prize in the 17th Manga Jiman competition hosted and organised by the Embassy of Japan in the UK last year, for his eight-page story, “St. Jerome 2.0”. He was praised for his unique style, innovative storytelling techniques and hours of dedication, which all helped him to first place.

He’s spent nearly 40 years touring nationally and internationally with the Whalley Range All Stars, a street theatre company he formed with Sue Auty. Drawing plays an important part in the early stages of every company production.

In the last few years, Edward worked on a variety of comic strip stories as a side-line to the theatre shows, including not only his Godzilla books, but illustrated books such as Glock and Beretta, too, all available to buy from his official web site.

“I need to raise £1200 for printing costs,” Edward tells downthetubes. “I’ve already raised half of what I need so although the process feels a little slower this year, I’m on course for publication.

“It’s my longest book to date… The book is full colour and 110 pages long ( 104 of which are the dialogues ). It’s twice the size of the other four books I’ve published and it will have a fancy cover.”

Ever innovative, this new book comes jam-packed with images and ideas. It includes a beautiful painting of Paradise by Simon Manfield and a QR code is included, which will take you to a solo on the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) by Clive Bell.

“My other books have sold well but I need to sell as many copies of this as possible.”
