Veteran comic writer and author Mike W. Barr, well known for his work on Batman and the Outsiders, Star Trek novels, his creator owned Camelot 3000 (with Brian Bolland), and much more, needs fans help.
Seeking financial assistance through a GoFundMe page created to help Barr, we’re told he is suffering from multiple health related issues, after multiple knee replacement surgeries.
Sadly, he is still suffering the effects of having COVID-19. His condition left him unsteady and he suffered a fall that left him unconscious for four days until he was found. He had a serious concussion and spent several months in the hospital where he had more surgeries.
Barr has been discharged from the hospital and now needs physical therapy. The fundraising campaign organised by Dave Kellog seeks to help with the cost of medical bills that have exceeded his insurance limits, which has caused the stoppage of his therapy. He needs financial help to continue his therapy and improve his health, as well as for his living expenses.

The crowdfiunding campaign has so far raised just over $48,000 on Mike’s behalf, but further support all helps, and Mike is grateful to everyone for their kindness and support.
He has also thanked the National Cartoonists Society Foundation for their generous support, whose remarkable work includes providing aid and financial assistance to cartoonists and their families during challenging times, funding scholarships for students, and supporting various educational and charitable programs. Mike W. Barr: A Creator’s Life
Mike W. Barr has spent 50 years as a comics writer, and science fiction and mystery novelist, a writer of comic books, mystery novels, and science fiction novels. He is perhaps the first writer to have written every one of the first four incarnations of Star Trek: Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager, in comic book form or any other.
A comic book writer for many years, Barr’s credits also include the creator-owned Camelot 3000, created with Brian Bolland, Batman: Son of the Demon, Batman and the Outsiders, Detective Comics, The Maze Agency, and Mantra for the Malibu Ultraverse. His Batman scripts have been adapted for the movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and for several episodes of the Batman animated show.
