While Judge Dredd co-creator Carlos Ezquerra, who died this week, is well known for his work on 2000AD, he worked for other publishers, including Commando and Beano DC Thomson, which once published many more titles than they do today.
One of them was the long-running action adventure title Wizard, and downthetubes contributor Colin Noble has unearthed his first covers for the title.
Carlos didn’t just draw covers for Wizard, he drew strips too, and Colin talks more about his first, “He Was Only A Private Soldier”, which centred on the Zulu War of 1879, here on his own blog NothingButAFan.

There’s more of Carlos’ work (and other British comic greats) here and here on Lew Stringer’s terrific Blimey! Blog.
