For the first time in its 115-year history, French luxury fashion house Chanel has partnered with superhero brand DC Comics to put a spotlight on Superman earlier this week.

The partnership debuted on the Chanel Métier d’Arts 2026 runway in New York – held in a disused Subway station in New York – and was highlighted by a signature cashmere sweater that featured Superman’s instantly recognisable S-shield combined with the iconic double-C Chanel logo.
The production team behind the show were aiming to encapsulate the diverse range of personalities a person might see when using public transport. The show itself contained looks reminiscent of 1970s journalists and 1980s businesswomen, but of all the looks showcased, the Superman-inspired “Clark Kent Look” – featuring a knitted sweater boasting the instantly recognisable red, blue and yellow Superman logo under a plaid blazer and brown slacks – attracted the most attention from social media users and DC Comics fans.
Wonder Woman’s boots were also spotted on another model, peeking out from underneath a coat.
Matthieu Blazy, Chanel’s artistic director, said his looks show how people can be the heroes of their own stories.
“The New York subway belongs to all,” he said of the urban setting, a disused Bowery station on New York’s Lower East Side, in the show’s notes. “Everyone uses it: there are students and gamechangers; statesmen and teenagers.” For the newly-instated creative director, the New York subway provides an endless wealth of creative inspiration, a place full of “enigmatic yet wonderful encounters”, where everyone “has somewhere to go and each is unique in what they wear.”
The event had a very select invite list that included a select bunch of fashion press, influencers and famous faces, including A$AP Rocky, Chanel’s Brand Ambassador and Margaret Qualley, who both featured in a pre-show video, Jon Bon Jovi, Tilda Swinton, Kristen Stewart, Solange, G. Dragon, Linda Evangelista, Riley Keough – and film director Martin Scorsese.
“Huge congratulations to all the teams who brought this to life,” commented Jérôme Ollagnier, Vice President at Warner Bros. Entertainment Group on the show.
