Somehow, despite their massive social media footprint, we totally missed the fact that The Etherington Brothers launched a free monthly How to THINK When You Draw digital magazine in April.

The brothers, longtime contributors to The Phoenix comic, who have published a series of phenomenal, bestselling How to THINK When You Draw and How to THINK When You Write books, sharing tips across their long-running blog, launched in 2009, tumblr and other social media for years, now offer their indispensable guides through this new magazine.
It includes brand new tutorials a year before they appear online, plus loads more, so if you want to get the magazine delivered free to your inbox each month, just send “Magazine, please!” To ThinkDraw@yahoo.com.
Issue Three, coming soon, will be “Bumper Sized”, so it’s a good time to sign up!
Lorenzo very kindly sent me the first two issues and they are a terrific read. He’s made it clear what is new and what’s from the archive throughout, and I particularly like items such as “What are the ten most important pieces of advice you’d give to a beginner” (“Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing” is a very good tip – be yourself!).

The Lorenzo Brothers – Robin and Lorenzo – are British comic creators with a longtime presence on the independent comic scene, creators of characters such as Malcolm Magic, Long Gone Don and Von Doogan. Their books have raised over millions of pounds on Kickstarter, and have been translated into eight languages.
(We previously noted their books were the most-funded art books on Kickstarter for three consecutive years: 2019, 2020 and 2021, and their book, How to Think When You Draw, Book 5, is still the highest funded comic project ever on that crowdfunding platform).

Lorenzo was raised on the three great pillars of comics – Dan Dare, Asterix and Calvin and Hobbes. His childhood was spent surrounded by sheets of drawing paper on which he and his brother Robin travelled to countless imagined worlds. He’s very pleased to report that his adult life is being spent in much the same way.
