This month sees the start of celebrations to mark to celebrate 50 years of history-making, game-changing French comics magazine Métal Hurlant, which began publishing in December 1974, which went on to be published in English as Heavy Metal.
Plenty of special projects, in French, are in the works through to June next year from publishers Les Humanoïdes Associés, including seven sumptuous new collectors’ editions, among them a new edition of Social Fiction by Chantal Montellier, to be released in November, which was released in English last year.

Also on the way are five bi-monthly, 300-page compendia of Opus Humano, one for each decade; three poster-magazines, Des Lendemains qui Hurlent, for each of the last three decades; and a special anniversary issue of Métal in February 2025, which will be launched at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d’Angoulême.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
