To mark their first 21 years of satirical cartoon excellence, Modern Toss – 21st Anniversary Touring Exhibition has just rolled into Liverpool.

Jon Link and Mick Bunnage chose Liverpool as the location for the exhibition, which runs until 10th August 2025, because it’s a place where “people aren’t afraid to laugh at the state of things.” You’re advised to book tickets in advance. Under 18s will only be admitted with a parent or legal guardian.

“Tickets are available on the door if we’re not full, but best not to chance it. Book now, sort your life out.”
This full-scale retrospective features token operated swearing machines, over 100 original Modern Toss artworks, large-scale paintings, limited-edition pieces, animated chaos, big stone heads and a visual commentary so bleak it practically qualifies as news coverage.
Tickets for the exhibition includes 5 Tokens for interactive machines. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the world of Toss all in one place!

Modern Toss describe themselves as a couple of cack handed trouble-makers thinking up jokes and drawing them up for comics, greetings cards, books and animation. Prized by connoisseurs and collectors, their laugh out loud prints and artwork decorate toilet walls throughout the country.
They made two TV series for Channel 4 along with an impressive stack of other short animations for the telly; in particular, Business Mouse, the daft as arseholes run ins of a foul mouthed entrepreneurial cockney mouse, proved a massive hit.

Over the years Modern Toss have self published a whole rack of sharp and hilarious books, including the ever popular Work series. In 2014 a comprehensive appraisal of their groundbreaking work to date A Decade in the Shithouse book, weighing in at nearly 5lbs, was hailed as “a contemporary cartoon classic” by someone at The Guardian. Their work features regularly in Private Eye, The Guardian, New Scientist and Esquire, and bursts out occasionally in a crop of other magazines and newspapers.
“This exhibition was originally kickstarted by supporters of our crowdfunding campaign – big thanks if that was you,” say the cartoonists. “It’s been built slowly over time with a lot of late nights, DIY fixes, and the artists doing most of the graft themselves.
“We’re not some huge funded machine – just a small team putting together something we care about, with whatever we can get our hands on.
“So if you’re buying a ticket—thank you. It genuinely helps keep the whole thing going.”
