Beyond Dredd and Watchmen: The Art of John Higgins

Beyond Dredd and Watchmen: The Art of John Higgins, opening at Liverpool’s Victoria Gallery 10th March 2017, is the first major retrospective of the work of Liverpool-born artist.

John Higgins found global success as a comic book artist, colourist and writer for 2000AD, DC and Marvel. Along with work on strips as diverse as Judge Dredd, Doctor Who, Sandman and Watchmen, his creator-owned credits include the extraordinary Razorjack.

The exhibition, which runs until October, offers a glimpse into John’s extraordinary imagination – an output which crosses the boundaries between comics, graphic novels, cinema, television, advertising and music.

John’s original art will be displayed alongside examples of the work of the artists and science fiction classics that inspired him, and John will be making an appearance in Liverpool to promote the event – for details of this and other events related to the exhibition, check this page on the Gallery site.

“I want the exhibition to show young artists and writers that anything is possible,” John says,”that you can have a career in comics and SF illustration, and that aliens, zombies and fantastic worlds can be made real, you just need imagination.

“To have an exhibition in my home town at the University’s Victoria Gallery & Museum is an honour beyond my wildest imaginings and if you want to see how far my wildest imaginings can go, come to the exhibition.”
