ITV Studios Global Entertainment has teamed with Kuato Studios, producers of Code Warriors and Dino Tales, to develop a story-telling game app based on Thunderbirds Are Go.

Scheduled for release in early 2018, the app will be available on iOS and Android.

The new app launch follows the recent success of Parker’s Driving Challenge, an app game developed with Play With Games that earned plenty of positive feedback from players and achieved top ten status across 114 countries.

An updated take on Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s hugely successful Thunderbirds show first broadcast in the 1960s, Thunderbirds Are Go has risen to great success in the kids’ space, airing in over 40 markets with a global licensing programme spanning 85 licensees covering all key categories.

New episodes of the show due to air in September will see a the appearance of Tycho Reeves, a billionaire inventor much admired by Brains voiced by David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch), who has some unexpected teething problems on the inaugural voyage of his superspeed Hypercar; while Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Me Before You) voices Doyle, a resilient and courageous oil rig worker who stands up for what is right and allies herself with International Rescue.

“As a best in class UK-based studio, Kuato is a perfect fit for Thunderbirds Are Go and we are thrilled to be working with them on this exciting project,” said Steve Green, EVP kids content and distribution, ITVS GE.

“As we have seen from the standout success of Parker’s Driving Challenge, fans of Thunderbirds Are Go welcome additional content and alternative ways to experience the series, particularly in the form of digital games.

“With new episodes of the show airing on CITV this Autumn, the launch of this app will be a complementary addition to the show and our licensing programme.”

Kuato Studios mobile app Hakitzu Elite, released in 2013, a robot coding game, was lauded as a pioneering effort in the mobile apps market. The company focuses on skills – critical and strategic thinking, reasoning, creativity, innovation, memory retention, problem solving and collaboration – and then creates compelling games that foster their development. The company is backed by Horizons Ventures, premier VC investors in Facebook, Spotify, Waze, Summly and Fixmo, with SRI International, the creators of Siri.

Mark Horneff, managing director of Kuato Studios, added: “Kuato Studios are delighted to be working with ITV on this exciting new adaption of Thunderbirds Are Go.

“With its beloved characters, thrilling adventures and quality storytelling, it’s a truly iconic show, and a perfect addition to our Tales Maker series.”
