The brilliant indie-comics focused Awesome Comics Podcast are celebrating reaching their milestone 200th episode with a live recording at the Two Chairmen pub in central London on, appropriately enough, Free Comic Book Day – 4th May 2019.
Adding to the comic fun on the day is an opportunity to support Little Heroes, the unofficial charity of the Awesome Comics Podcast by taking part in a special fund raiser on the day.
Over on the Awesome Comics Talk Facebook page, downthetubes contributor Richard Sheaf is helping to organise a sale and raffle of items on the day of the recording at what is believed to be London’s oldest pub that will go towards providing Little Heroes with the money to make more comic making kits for a child.
“The idea is to simply ask for donations of small press comics, books, original small press art – whatever people can spare really,” says Richard.
“The Awesome Comics Talk community have already come together to offer some amazing goodies – you can see some amazing art that’s already been donated from Gareth Sleightholme and Cliff Cumber. Other donations are expected to arrive over the next couple of weeks and people are invited to bring items along on the day that they’d be happy to donate.
“A number of creators have also promised a sketch of your favourite comics character.”
Richard came up with the idea as a way for fans of the podcast to be able to say a big and deserved “thank you” to Awesome Comic Podcast hosts Dan Butcher, Tony Esmond and Vince Hunt for their efforts every week to produce a podcast.
“We all love listening to it and as for going the extra mile to put on the recording for #200 for free and invite us all along, how cool is that?”
So if you’d like to say “thank you” too, what can you do? Well, if you have further questions you can contact rsheaf2001@yahoo.co.uk or acp_200@yahoo.com (the second address is also the Paypal address, if you want to donate directly to this charity project, or if you want to pre-order raffle tickets).
The raffle will be available to those who are not able to make it on the day – again, just use the e-mail addresses above if you want more details – or join the Awesome Comics Talk Facebook group to stay up to date with the fundraising fun.
Stay awesome!
