ComicScene goes Stateside, 30,000 vote in first ComicScene Awards

ComicScene Magazine Volume #9

British comic magazine ComicScene is now on sale in the United States through Barnes & Noble, starting from Issue 9. Fans of British comics and more can pick up or order it in most of their stores.

Launched on newsstands in the UK in December 2018 after a short but successful run by subscription and comic shops only, the magazine has run for 16 issues so far, with news stand Issues 9 and 10 seen as good jumping on points for new readers.

Issue 11, on sale in the UK on 19th December, will feature the winners of the first ComicScene Awards, which had over 30,000 votes over 30 categories.

Issue 9 of ComicScene, featuring a new World War One comic strip from 2000AD creator and Marshal Law writer Pat Mills, is in US stores now followed by Issue 10, featuring Judge Dredd on the cover and a 24 page pull out all ages comic inside.

ComicScene Issue 10

The magazine features articles on British and worldwide comics plus new strips including “Rok of the Reds” by Judge Dredd co-creator John Wagner, with Alan Grant, with art by 2000AD‘s Dan Cornwell; Andy W Clift‘s “Captain Cosmic” and Steve Tanner and Anthony Summey‘s on “Lady Flintlock“.

An all-ages magazine pull out, Corker, includes Knight and Dragon “Gallant and Amos” by Rob Barnes, “Slash Moron” by some of the comic writing team behind the Wallace and Gromit newspaper strip, Bambos Georgiou, the late James Hansen and John Burns, “MegaAtomic Battle Rabbit” by Stu Perrins and Israel Huretas, and “Whackoman!” by Marc Jackson.

The idea behind the pull out is for adults to pass it on to their kids, nieces, nephews and grand children, to encourage comic reading.

Articles in the magazine include interviews with Swamp Thing and Batman writer Andy Diggle and interviews with ‘Anthrax’ front man and 2000AD fan Scott Ian and Metallica’s Kirk Hammett on their love for comics. It also includes the best in graphic novels, indie and small press comics, plus UK and European comics.

ComicScene is also on sale in Australia, Canada (Indigo/Chapters) as well as being available on newsstands and comic shops in the UK, through WHSmith, McColls, Martins and Forbidden Planet, and Easons in Ireland.
