Just launched on Kickstarter is a campaign for a print edition of the wonderfully silly, critically-acclaimed comic strip The Penned Guin by Alan Henderson, an all new collection titled Vision, comprising of the daily cartoons that appeared on-line throughout 2019.
With family friendly humour for all, the daily The Penned Guin webcomic has been running for almost seven years and appears on a variety of social media. The new book is packed with 100 pages of penguin laughs and giggles from Alan featuring the antics of a funny group of penguins and having had a sneak preview of the book, I can confirm these antics are as daft as ever, offering straight and some occasional “fourth wall” gags that mercilessly pole fun at the comics form.
“Vision is our all new 2020 book that pulls together around 180 of the daily comic strips, none of which have ever been in a printed edition before,” says Alan.
“The A5 landscape book is 100 pages of black and white penguin humour featuring the puns, dad jokes and cringing gags you’ve come to expect from our penguin crew.
“In this outing the penguins come in different sizes; tell the truth; examine the maths of the problem; and question the difference between vision and sight.”
The Penned Guin has had several successful Kickstarter campaigns since 2017, with five books published using this crowdfunding platform, “all of which has enabled the penguins to ‘fly’ round the world,” Alan tells us, “reaching all corners of the globe and even allowing us to make the statement ‘We’re big in Finland’…”
The new book is offered through the same process to reach as wide an audience as possible. The funds raises all go towards the production of the book and getting it into the hands of the backers, with any excess used to enhance the delivery and keep the strips appearing on-line.
The Kickstarter offers a number of tiers for backers with the book available in digital and print formats. The print version is offered at the discount price of just £6. You can also select tiers where you receive original art from the comics in the book – or even commission your own piece.
This time round there are also two special tiers. Firstly The Penned Guinn team are offering their second Treasury Edition Don’t Judge Me, which was published in 2019 but hasn’t previous been part of a Kickstarter campaign. This pulls together 500 plus strips from earlier Penned Guin books and includes the story line of the trial where our penguin chums where charged with pater-iocus-icde (the murdering of dad jokes!).
The campaign will also feature a limited edition t-shirt that will not be available through other means.
The Penned Guin is daft, silly and for me, very, very funny – and who doesn’t need a laugh in difficult times? Plus, the book is a bargain! Check out the latest Kickstarter campaign here!
