Alex T Smith’s new “Claude Comic Capers” brings his awesome pup to comics

Alex T Smith’s beloved Claude, about a little dog’s adventures with his sidekick, Sir Bobblysock, whizzes from the page to the small screen and back to the page, this time as comic strips, in the latest tie-in to his TV adventures, Claude Comic Capers, out now from Hachette Children’s Books.

Claude Comic Capers

Claude Comic Capers is a brand new format for Claude fans, a series of four comic strip stories based on episodes from the Claude television series based on Alex T Smith’s original books. Inside, you’ll find Claude and Sir Bobblysock, alongside the community of Claude’s hometown of Pawhaven – including bonkers Lord Turrett, sneaky Denzel Pedal and everyone’s favourite leotard-clad mover and shaker, Miss Highkick Spin.

Claude Comic Capers opens with Claude head to toe in superhero attire in “Superpaw”, set to save the day with his superhero pals. “Superpaw” is swiftly followed by some high drama and crime solving in the second story, “Drama on the Pawhaven Express”.

Then, in “Nurse Claude”, with emergencies at every turn, Claude is quick to whip out his watch brooch and stethoscope as he works on his bedside manner. In the final strip we join him pounding the pavements of Pawhaven in “PC Claude”.

Since hitting television screens on Disney Junior and ITVBe, Claude, Sir Bobblysock and the good folk of Pawhaven have absolutely captured the hearts of the nation.

He’s the creation of award-winning artist Alex T. Smith, an artist and writer who’s created a clutch of best-selling and award-winning picture books with numerous publishing houses, including Hachette Children’s Books and Scholastic.

Also currently offering some terrific story telling tips and challenges for kids (of all ages!) on Twitter during Lockdown, Alex claims his “passion for gazing out of windows” has strongly influenced the eclectic, diverse and fun filled characters that inhabit the pages of his books, which also include Egg Box Dragon by the late Richard Adams.

Creating work that’s both elegant and filled with humour has seen recognition for Alex’s incredible illustrative talents from numerous award panels, including the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal, the UKLA Picture Book Awards and World Illustration Awards. He was crowned World Book Day Illustrator in 2016, further building his profile in both the trade and library markets.

Alex’s much loved and bestselling Claude series has achieved stratospheric success, published worldwide in over 14 languages and now a series of eight illustrated books, including a doodle book and picture book for younger readers.

Claude in the City was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club. Claude Going for Gold won the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Award.

The books caught the eye of Belfast-based animation production company Sixteen South, who lovingly adapted the books for the small screen in a series of over 50 animated episodes now being aired on Disney Junior UK, delighting ardent Claude fans and introducing this magical pair to a whole new audience.

Alex is represented by the boutique agency Arena Illustration, who represent a range of award-winning, best selling artists supplying beautiful and eye-catching illustrations in a variety of distinctive styles to clients across all genres.

“Alex has an unparalleled talent for creating complex, completely eccentric and totally engaging characters with a multileveled comedic appeal to adults and children alike,” say the Arena team.

“There is no doubt these bite sized adventures and their irresistible appeal will lead new Claude fans on to Alex T Smith’s original Claude adventures and beyond. We are so proud of Claude and Alex’s stratospheric success in recent years and it is all down to Alex’s incredible humorous and unique storytelling and ability to commit his marvellous comic character creations to the page.”
