Dennis the Menace Patches

Jennie Maizels Ltd has signed up with The Beano‘s Dennis and Gnasher to produce a range of iron-on patches for the UK and overseas.

The firm will develop a range of patches based on classic images supplied by DC Thomson’s archive of artwork.

“Being lifelong Beano fans, it has been a joy to work on the designs based on classic images supplied to us from DC Thomson,” said a spokesperson from Jennie Maizels.

“The designs were launched at the design show Top Drawer recently, resulting in our best-selling product. We hope everyone will love them as much as we do.

“Childrenswear trade title, Childrens Wear Buyer are planning to feature the Dennis the Menace and Gnasher Iron on Patches in their Laura Loves section.”

Designer Jennie Maizels, who lives in Hampshire with her family, was born in London in 1970 to a pair of groovy hippies who now run the art magazine, Raw Vision. After numerous commissions after graduating from Central St. Martins School of Art  where she studied illustration, including shop window displays for Harvey Nichols and Dillons Bookstores, she met talented children’s book author, the late Kate Petty, and they worked together on eight books together over sixteen years which have sold over a million copies worldwide, including The Great Grammar Book, which was nominated for Children’s Book of the Year 1999 and The Global Garden, which was winner of the Aventis Prize 2006.

Although Kate died in 2007 Jennie continues to work on pop books; the latest book she is working on is with Kate’s son Will Petty.

“Jennie Maizels products stand out on shelf as well designed and innovative, tapping into the current trend for crafting and personalisation and are a great fit with The Beano brand,” commented Ian Downes, MD of Start Licensing of the new license. “We look forward to seeing the product going into distribution.”
