Dan Dare fan? Graham Bleathman, Thunderbirds artist extraordinaire, and more, fan? Well, now’s your chance to own a stunning piece of his original art, simply by joining The Eagle Society.

For those unfamiliar, The Eagle Society is dedicated to the memory of EAGLE – Britain’s National Picture Strip Weekly – the leading Boy’s magazine of the 1950s and 1960s. They publish an A4, quarterly journal – the Eagle Times, and their recent 150th issue featured a beautiful Dan Dare artwork on the cover by Graham.

Now, the painting is to be offered as a raffle prize for society members in the coming months, which will also hopefully encourage Dan Dare and EAGLE fans to join their ranks, too. To be in with a chance of winning this A3, gouache painting, you have to be a society member, or join the society to do so.

The winner will be announced at the Eagle Society Annual Dinner/club weekend early next year and, obviously, by email/snail mail to the winner shortly after I guess.

Graham Bleathman is much admired by Gerry Anderson fans for his amazing cutaway illustrations of Anderson craft and buildings, He’s been a regular contributor to FAB magazine and created art for numerous books, including the Dan Dare: Spacefleet Operations Manual (Owner’s Workshop Manual), written by the late Rod Barzilay.

John Freeman

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more.
