American Doctor Who fans concerned they may face challenges ahead getting their hands on the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine can rest easy, for now.
Publisher Panini UK tell downthetubes the US side of the long-running title’s distribution is still being carried out by the Diamond UK, a separate company from the troubled US company, for the time being.
Currently, Doctor Who Magazine 623, on sale in UK newsagents from 6th November, with a 21st January on sale date in direct market supplied stores in the United States, is the last listed issue in the current distributor Diamond Distributor Comics catalogues.
This prompted concern from some US fans that it might soon become harder to buy copies of the title from their Local Comic Shop.
As many downthetubes readers will know, distributor Diamond Comics in the United States is undergoing a restructure and embroiled in legal action, after what it ascribes to “the unexpected loss of certain exclusive publisher relationships, compounded by an overall contraction in consumer spending, increased inflation, and a loss of margin on key print product lines.”
After exploring all available options, Diamond determined that filing for Chapter 11 was the best course of action to restructure its operations and secure the most favorable outcome for all stakeholders.
The situation has led to British companies such as 2000AD publisher Rebellion and Titan Comics switching to Lunar Distribution for direct market distribution. (Rebellion agreed a non exclusive deal back in May, although, currently, only some of Rebellion’s books and Best of 2000AD title are listed on their catalogue pages).
However, Panini UK is still currently contracted with Diamond UK for direct market distribution of Doctor Who Magazine in the United States.
Subscription Options
Subscriptions through the official Doctor Who Magazine website are only available to readers in the UK.
Customers in the United Kingdom, Gibraltar and Ireland can also order back issues from panini.co.uk, while stocks last. Digital back issues are available internationally from pocketmags.com.
However, you can secure copies in the United States through third party subscription services such as Unique Magazines (current issues available listed here) and Magazine Cafe.
